The best piece of advice from our engagement party came in the form of a poem from my year 6 primary school teacher and family friend…
Captain Corelli’s Mandolin - Louis de Bernieres
Love is a temporary madness,
it erupts like volcanoes and then subsides.
And when it subsides you have to make a decision.
You have to work out whether your roots have so entwined together,
that it is inconceivable that you should ever part.
Because this is what love it.
Love is not breathlessness,
it is not excitement,
it is not the promulgation of eternal passion.
That is just being “in love” which any fool can do.
Love itself is what is left over when being in love has burned away,
and this is both an art and a fortunate accident.
Those that truly love have roots that grow towards each other underground,
and when all the pretty blossoms have fallen from their branches,
they find that they are one tree and not two.
Monday the 3rd of December :)
On Monday the 3rd of December I arrived home from Melbourne and little did I know what I was in for that night! For starters my boyfriend Phillip took me out to One Tree Grill for dinner. Oblivious as usual, I didn’t suspect a thing. Phillip patiently listened to me blabbering on about Melbourne the entire time. After dinner we went for a walk then headed back to his car. On our way home he ‘spontaneously’ swerved into One Tree Hill and drove up the mountain. The stone walls leading us up the mountain had cute little mason jars with candles in them. I must have been pretty tired to not catch on by this point! Phillip then parked his car and we got out to look at the view. As Phillip got down on one knee to propose the bank then lit up with fairy lights saying ‘Will you marry me Jenna?’
I still can’t believe it. I am the luckiest girl in the world :)
Here’s a snapshot of what I got up to while I was in Melbourne. The photos are a little jumbled and out of order, but you get the idea. I had an amazing time with my girls and it was such a nice way to celebrate finishing University! We all fell in love with the city with its diverse cafes and restaurants, hot weather, shops, trams, alley ways, architecture, casino, crazy taxi drivers, vintage markets and pretty beaches.
I think it’s safe to say I’ll be back one day! <3
I’ve been on holiday for 17 days now and I think it has finally sunken in that I have finished studying forever… I’ve been enjoying sleep ins, seeing Phillip a whole heap more often, playing on my new iphone, taking photos and sharing them on instagram (yes I know I’m a bit late with that one), catching up with friends, shopping, hanging with family, cleaning my room, throwing out everything uni related, going to a few 21st’s and making the most of daylight saving by spending time outside. I’ve got a few exciting things coming up too before I start to knuckle down and get serious with job hunting/increasing my hours at Farro over Christmas. Tomorrow I’m off to get my hair done and on Sunday I leave for my trip to Melbourne with my lovely uni friends Grace, Rachel, Evana and Caylee. I can’t wait!
